These award recipients exemplify the highest standards of excellence and service in our field. We celebrate their achievements and thank them for their outstanding commitment. Their stories inspire continued excellence and serve as a reminder of the meaningful difference one can make through leadership, innovation, and dedication. Lou Eichler Award of ExcellenceThe Lou Eichler Award of Excellence is the highest honor bestowed by NACUMS and is in recognition of a lifetime of achievement in the professional field of college and university mailing services. Named in honor of CUNIMAIL founder Lou Eichler, its first recipient, this award is presented to an individual who has demonstrated the highest levels of professional excellence and who has made contributions above and beyond the scope of their normal duties and responsibilities. Any candidate considered for this award must have significant accomplishments in college and university mailing that will have an impact on the industry for years to come. Former NACUMS members who are retired, but still made significant contributions to the industry, may be considered. If no qualified candidate is nominated, there will be no award in this category.

Excellence in Management AwardThis award is for excellence in the management of an in-house mail operation that stands alone, or is combined with related services such as print, copy, courier, or receiving.

Industry Leadership AwardThis level of acknowledgement by NACUMS is presented for outstanding leadership and must extend beyond the boundaries of the individual’s college or university. The person nominated must be a NACUMS member in good standing and have made significant contributions to the mailing industry.

Mail Center of the Year AwardThe NACUMS Mail Center of the Year Award is established by the NACUMS Board to recognize any organization for outstanding contribution(s) to their institution and to the profession. This award takes into consideration accomplishments made by the Mail Center throughout the past year but is not limited specifically to that period. Projects can entail years of planning before execution, and all activities leading up to a major accomplishment is to be provided for review. The recipient of this award is recognized by their peers who deem them worthy of being honored for their institutions professional accomplishments and for sharing their experiences with other member institutions. Any member can make nominations for this award for any other member, by completing an application. Member schools may self-nominate.

Outstanding Team Member AwardThis award recognizes a person who is not the direct manager/director of a mail center, but has gone beyond his or her normal work duties and has been an example for others to follow. This person made a major impact in their mail center that is significant and noteworthy of a national award.

Barry Gauthier Volunteer AwardBarry Gauthier Volunteer Award was developed to honor Barry for making significant contributions to NACUMS through his time, actions, talents and dedication. Mr. Gauthier was a selfless person. As a volunteer he would donate his time no matter if he was a Board Member or an active member of a committee. He needed no accolades or reason to volunteer; all he needed to know was that his assistance was needed. The honoree selected for this award should exemplify what Barry stood for and serve as a role model for other NACUMS Members.
Back to TopJohn Wargo Mail Industry Partnership AwardThe basis of this award is to recognize and memorialize the support and assistance of John Wargo in helping the college and university mail services gain recognition as an important industry with the United States and one that was an important and integral partner with the US Postal Service. John’s effort and support was critical to helping NACUMS come into being and to grow into the strong industry organization that it is today. This award will recognize individuals or organizations who have aided in the advancement of the NACUMS organization. This could include, but is not to be limited to, service improvements, technology advances, special projects and educational efforts as well as other areas related to college and university mail.
