The term “Sooner” dates back to the Oklahoma Land Rush in 1889, when settlers race to claim land in the newly opened territory. Those who crossed the starting line early-before the official signal-were called “Sooners.” Today, the name symbolizes ambition, initiative, and seizing opportunities before others.
