MARCUMS

Mid-Atlantic Region of College and University Mail Services (MARCUMS)

Based on the positive responses to a survey letter sent to several hundred colleges and universitys in the mid-atlantic region, there was no doubt that there was sufficient interest to begin the organizing event. The region comprises the states of New York, New Jersey, Deleware, Pennsylvania, Virginia, West Virginia, Ohio, Maryland and the District of Columbia.

Mission Statement

The Middle Atlantic Region of College and University Mail Services (MARCUMS) is organized to enhance the professionalism and technical expertise of its membership in postal management through education, exchange of information and access to new technologies and processes.  MARCUMS provides the organizational element to allow its members to achieve these goals by its motteo "Success through Teamwork."

MARCUMS held its first business meeting on October 20, 1998 at York College of Pennsylvania, York, PA and has had a total of 50 charter members on the occasion of its first business meeting. Total membership has continued to increase since then.

The following individuals, who comprise the interim Executive Board pending the initial election, planned and conducted the initial organizing effort.

• Jim Buratti, CMDSM, Interim Vice-President, University of Maryland
• Karen Kaczmarek, Interim Treasurer, Duquesne University
• John P. Golding, CMM, Interim Secretary, Northern Virginia Community College

Contributing equally to the successful organizing effort were the following Committee Chairpersons:

• Barbara Buchanan, Programs Committee Chairperson, Millersville University
• Nancy Guthrie, Membership Committee Chairperson, Geneva College
• Elaine Rafferty, Elections Committee Chairperson, Rider University
• Glenn Molzer, Professional Development Committee Chairperson, Carnegie-Mellon University

Election of Executive Board members and approval of the intitial By-laws will be conducted in January 1999 with successful candidates assuming office in April 1999. Committee chairs are appointed by the President.
